3rd Coast Cruising
3rd Coast Cruising, located in DuSable and Monroe Harbors, is looking for fun, personable, well-spoken sailing captains for both charter and sailing instructions. We will train novice Captains! (Current off-season training going on right now at the boatyard, covering all aspects of boat ownership from engines to fiberglass, heated storage!) Our “Learn to Sail” program teaches all levels of sailors on 30’ to 36’ monohulls and a 36’ catamaran concentrating on them building their sailing resume on a wide variety of boats.

Experienced in other outdoor activities (wilderness training) and a passion for adventure is a plus.

Chicago Electric Boat Company
Chicago will play host to yet another great experience on the Chicago River. We are proud to announce Chicago Cycleboats which is a fun and unique way to experience Chicago on the water. You will captain a boat unlike any other—customers pedal a giant paddle wheel which propels the COI certified vessel down the river.
Qualifications: REQUIRED CREDENTIALS: USCG Master License DEPARTURE DOCK: Between LaSalle St. & Wells St. on the Chicago Riverwalk SCHEDULING: Seeking full-time and part-time captains. You will be required to follow a weekly schedule based on the hours requested and will include weekends. OPERATION: Tours will operate daily with a 90 minute cruise time (5-7 cruises/day). You will be assisted by a crew member during your cruises. COMPENSATION: Hourly pay depending on past experience. EXPERIENCE: Previous captain and customer service experience are preferred as you will be interacting with customers while you captain. VESSEL DETAILS: Vessel is human-powered and is simply operated by customers peddling a device that spins a paddle wheel mounted to the stern of the vessel. There is also an electric outboard motor to assist in docking and emergency situations.

Freedom Boat Club
Boating Instructor and Dock Manager
Freedom Boat Club is the country’s oldest and largest recreational boat club. We have three locations in Chicago and over 200 nationwide. Our Chicago location is looking for a captain to instruct our members on the water and in the classroom on safe boat operations. This will be a full-time salaried position (plus tips!) from mid-April until late fall, with the possibility of year-round work. Duties will also include: Fueling boats, managing the member experience at the dock, and ensuring the boats are clean and operational.
Qualifications: A USCG masters or six-pack license is required. Some experience operating vessels with a single, outboard engine is preferred, but we will train the right candidate. Patience with novice boaters is a must. Work week will be 40-50 hours.
